Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that is occurring on the global, national, and local levels, several state dental boards, the Nevada State Dental Board, and the American Dental Association have recommended guidelines in which dental offices should suspend any elective procedures and cleaning appointments for the next 2 weeks. Emergency dental visits for patients in pain and with a dental emergency are the only recommended appointments to remain open, as long as no flu like symptoms are being experienced.
We will be rescheduling our patients until the first week of April in order to abide by these guidelines. Although these are “recommended” and not mandated closures, we want to do our part by joining other colleagues to help limit the spread. By doing so, we are not taking people and possibly their families out of their households during this distancing and self/home quarantines.
Additionally, our hospitals are being overwhelmed with an influx of patients and are already low on basic personal protective equipment, like masks, and we hope that they do not get low on disinfectant supplies. By only seeing emergency patients for the next few weeks, we are not needing to order those supplies at the moment, allowing our hospitals to utilize and access them.
